Grounding and Containment

When you're experiencing heightened anxiety, rapid thoughts, pounding heart, pacing body - it can be helpful to ground your body and bring your focus in mind-body alignment. In moments when emotions are overwhelming - to assist with the emotional regulation and emotional processing - containment exercises can be helpful to turn down the intensity of the experience and bring you back into your window of tolerance -This gives you the opportunity to visit these feelings at a later moment when you're able to safely navigate the experience.


This resource is a list of grounding and containment exercises that can be helpful in the moment of overwhelm and being outside of your window of tolerance.
